As some of you may know I’ve been studying wine for about a year, and I’m finally nailing down the Zinfandel grape. A fun fact is that Zinfandel grapes that grow on ‘old vines’ are the most sought after for making wine, which is what intrigued me about this brand. Interesting enough, before I started learning more about wine, I’d only tasted White Zinfandel never knowing that it was derived from True Zinfandel. With that said, I’ve been drinking this a lot lately and I wish I would have been partaking long before now! But that’s water under the bridge at this point, so let’s get to the review!
Taste: Bold Vine’s Zinfandel is bold in flavor, yet it has a hint of sweetness that kind of sneaks up on you with a “hmm there’s sugar!” I did not expect any sweetness from such a dark wine. Now, let me make it clear that this is not a sweet wine, however I do recommend that my ‘sweet peeps’ check it out if you’re looking to get a tad bit adventurous! The next thing you taste is pepper! I know, I thought the same thing, “this wine has such an interesting flavor profile”. The subtle taste of peppercorn was a pleasant surprise BUT it’s not my favorite as goes Bold Vine’s Zinfandel. As far as smoothness, the tannins aren’t very strong so it allows for a bit more smoothness than say a Cabernet, so it’s a nice medium.
Price: I think the price matched the quality of the wine. It was cheap and tasty! I got this on sale from my local Kroger.
Overall I would buy it again as maybe a gift for someone else to give it a shot, but I probably won’t be buying again any time soon. Bold Vine does have other flavors that I wouldn’t mind trying, so stay tuned for an update on other wine flavors by these guys!
