LA Cetto Wines, Mexico!

Happy Cinco de Mayo! Yea, I know this holiday has become largely Americanized right down to it being the incorrect date for Mexican independence. In fact, the actual date of Mexican Independence is September 16th (1810). BUT the 5th of May, 1862 is still an important day in Mexican history being the anniversary of the battle of Puebla, the victory over the French by the Mexican military. It’s a much longer story, so, if you want to learn more about Cinco de Mayo, I encourage you to dive in at your leisure!

But today, we are celebrating our festive neighbors, Mexico with a highlight of one of their best wineries, LA Cetto Wines! I’ve personally tried a few including my favorite, the Brut Sparkling!

Celebrating Mexico!

Baja California, Mexico Needs To Be On Your Radar NOW!

Surprisingly, Mexico boasts a phenomenal wine producer, floating under the radar.

Back in my “influencing” days, I reviewed a wine, by request, from an unsuspecting winery in MEXICO – LA Cetto.

Being fairly new in my exploration of wine as well as being a baby Somm, I had never had Mexican wine before. I was in for such a surprising treat and needed to share the good news with everyone!

I was sent a couple of different wines including their fantastic Brut Sparkling wine. Admittedly, I don’t remember what else I tasted and seem to not have any documentation of what they were. But, now worries, things have changed a little over at LA Cetto, so we’ll dive into their current collection AND I’ll give you my notes on that delicious Brut!

My review was a couple of years prior to this review, so it looks like LA Cetto has changed their bottle and perhaps their production method. I haven’t taste the new Brut, so I can’t say for sure, but based on my previous tasting experience, I still encourage you all to give it a try.

When I tasted the Brut sparkling, it definitely came off like a Prosecco styled or (Charmot method) produced wine. Their newly labeled and named Champbrulé Brut is produced in the same method, so, I think this review shouldn’t be to far off their current bottle. Check out the notes below!

Tasting Notes

The look of this wine is a light in depth, light yellow toasty color. On the nose, we have citrus and apricot. The taste is well balanced with notes of pears, citrus and stone fruit. Being that this wine is Charmot method, its fruit forward flavor is not surprising.

Food & Wine Pairing

Referring to the above photo, I enjoyed this wine with fried lobster and waffles. I often enjoy Brut sparkling wine with salty and/or seafood. This was a delicious and perfect pairing as the sweet waffle actually didn’t make the wine too dry or bitter and complimented well thanks to that fruit forward flavor.

A couple of things I wanted to mention about LA Cetto wine brand is the accesability of the wine as well as the location of where the wine is made.

First thing, LA Cetto is located right below southern California in that infamous peninsula that we see on the map, but know next to nothing about the area except Tijuana. Lol, yea, that area! Check out the map I included below.

Second, LA Cetto wine is not as accesable for in-store shopping as I wish it were. BUT, if you’re an online wine shopper like myself, you’ll have no problem finding their wine with simple google search. But click the button below to head to their website to discover their collection of wine from still wines, sweet and sparkling. Be sure to follow us on Instagram to follow LA Cetto and check out other wine brands we love and recommend. CHEERS!
